Christmas time is soon arriving and my daughter is starting to understand all about Christmas and celebration she even has her own mini Christmas tree which she decorated herself. I have bought her some gifts already that I'm sure she will love. I bought her two stuffed animals of her favorite characters, a doll, a dog toy, and a kit of colors.

What are you gifting your children?

I don't have any babies yet but I'm planning to give my little brother a puzzle and a tablet. He loves doing puzzles as well as watching videos so I guess I'll get him a tab for himself. He also likes to paint but not by using a physical pencils and crayons so having a tablet can develop his painting skills and creativity, although I will still have to limit his usage to protect him from radiation and his eyes as well :)

Our children are 9 and 11 years old now, but my wife works in a school teaching 2 and 3 year old's so do have to buy gifts for that age group to use at the school. The easiest thing we do is go to the big department stores or specialist stores such as Mothercare here in the UK and all the toys are categorised in age groups, and then into specific categories. At that age I think it's important that the toys are obviously fun to play with, but there's also an educational purpose to them as well because at that age they do tend to get bored more easily than those children who are even slightly older.

Yes for sure toys must be both fun and educational at times. I bought my daughter a few days back some books, wooded blocks of different shapes and colors, and foam letters that are also like puzzles and she loves them and have learned from th significantly. She's a toddler so most things fascinate her and feels proud when she accomplishes something.

The babies or toddlers I've known really enjoy things that light up or cause sound with the press of a button. They like experiencing cause and effect. You do something and it happens. Children at a small age get excited when they get to be in control of something and toys such as a piano can be very fun for them. You can also buy a toy piano that lights up. A toy laptop is also a nice choice.

I think that books are always a safe bet. I guess I say that because these days if I am buying for toddlers it is other's people kids, so if it were mine maybe then it could be something a little more fun.

In schools now here in the UK, especially for the children around 2 or 3 years old, there's a focus on emotions and trying to get them to say or show how they are feeling. Happy, sad, frustrated...whatever it is, they are being asked to try and show how they are feeling and there are a lot of toys out there to help when it comes to this.

The toys are obviously fun, but they are also aimed at trying to get the children to open up about their feelings and they're the types of toys I was referring to. They are fun for the child, but they are also aimed at teaching them at the same time, and when learning is fun, especially at that age, I do think that children respond a lot better. It's like teaching them but without them actually knowing they are being taught!
