Do you watch a movie first before you can allow your kids to watch it?

Animations and cartoons some years back were actually made for children. In the recent years that has completely changed. Some animations are so x rated that you can't allow your child to watch it.I noticed that, and I am the one who completely authorizes what is to be watched and not watched in my house. The language used in some kid movies, some scenes, seriously, they are not acceptable. Many may call it modernization but to me it is not.

Children are so innocent for some things.I prefer if I was the one to tell them about some grown up issues when the time is right and they can understand, than see some acts which they cannot understand and explaining to them becomes an issue.

I don't think certain violent cartoons, for instance Bugs Bunny, are bad for children. However, nowadays they go beyond cute violence. Of course, some shows like the Simpsons go into controversial issues that kids probably cannot understand, but probably shouldn't be exposed to anyhow. However, there are shows even more extreme than The Simpsons.

The title of this thread is food for thought for parents. In my younger days, cartoons are the best for children despite the violence in the story. If you know Popeye The Sailor Man, the plot is always a quarrel with Brutus (or Bluto). But the violence in that cartoon is raw because it is a real cartoon unlike now that animation cannot be considered the traditional cartoon because the characters look real. Besides, the story is modern and realistic. So I guess it is good to watch it first by the parents so they can decide if their children can watch that particular movie.

Some parents don't care what their kids watch. Often the kids will watch gore films like Friday the 13th. However, I don't consider films like that to be cute violence. On top of this situation, they let them play video games which glorify stealing and bad words like Grand Theft Auto.

Note, I see nothing wrong with some violence in video games. However, the same criteria for cute violence vs gore are still being used.

I totally agree with the OP. These days cartoons can not be trusted readily. Although it is not possible to screen what is shown on tv as not every body can record it for later review, it is nonetheless to ecourage innocent cartoons like Tom.& Jerry, Oggy the cockroaches or Motu Patlu.

Well, as a parent it is our responsibility to provide for that is good and even best for the children. Seeing the movie first before letting our kids to watch is a one of the good parental discharge of that responsibility. There is nothing wrong with that. It would even be very beneficial to the kids. We know that those kids watch movie for entertainment, for enjoyment but not to soil their mind of any form of filthiness portrayed on the movie.

I didn't think that movies like cartoon or other forms of animation designed for kids should carry any x rated content until I read about a case of one online. Henceforth I learned to just go through quickly any video or film I intend to give to children for entertainment. It's a pity that some nefarious producers or marketers can go this way crafty not minding the audience.

Well back when our kids were young it was a much different atmosphere. These days I would be a lot more worried just because you can get anything anywhere on any device now, so that just means you would have to watch out that much more.

In a lot of cases, it wouldn't be difficult to see if a movie is inappropriate for children. All you have to do is look at the ratings. However, as the OP stated, some cartoons are not rated, yet are troublesome. In that case, I'd do some research on the net for various popular cartoons. movies etc. on TV, then decide for yourself if you feel they reflect your values and what you think your kids should be watching.

By the way, make sure your kids do not have command of the remote control and stay away from the screen so they won't change the channel.

Anything secular movie in the market these days get me suspicious of possible x rated contents. I won't be comfortable if I don't glance through the movie before allowing my kids access to it. I have watched a movie that wasn't supposed to be x rated but surprisingly I could see some elements of adult characters haven gone way into the film.
